Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! On this busy day, don't forget to sing some Halloween songs with your little one! My personal favorite: 5 Little Pumpkins. :) (Image from http://www.dltk-teach.com/minibooks/halloween/poem.htm)

The Power of You

The Power of YOU

Recently, a new tablet came on the market, designed specifically for children ages 4 and younger. (Yes, that’s 4 years old and younger!) The Vinci is a “real touch-screen Android-based product” with a tagline of “Inspire the Genius.”
Technology is a great thing, but I’m still a firm believer in some old-fashioned approaches to childhood. No one – and no thing – is better for your child than YOU. As your child’s first and best teacher, here is some simple, every day encouragement that I hope will help you inspire the genius that is uniquely your child.
Start by embracing your role as your child’s first and best teacher. You know your child better than anyone – what makes him giggle or what calms him down. It’s the little things like the happy little rituals and time together that you incorporate throughout the day that matter the most to your child developmentally, academically, and emotionally in the long run.
Give your child the gift of being able to entertain himself. Simple toys and playthings go a long way in developing a big imagination, providing hours of fun, and inspiring endless creative thinking. This kind of free play inspired from within is what gives a child a sense of creative accomplishment and healthy self-esteem – both things that will help him stand out and be successful as an adult too!
Involve your child in your day whenever you can. Sing and talk with him as you’re getting ready in the morning. If you’re doing chores around the house, give him a duster too. If you’re in the kitchen fixing supper, give him a bowl and spoon, or as he gets older, let him help cook too. Outdoor chores are fun together too, and often turn into very happy memories of simple, yet special time together. All along the way, your child is learning not just the how-to, but also gaining a spirit of can-do.
Celebrate the little moments. The moments when the lullaby you sing calms your fussy baby, your toddler busts out in a contagious belly laugh over your silly antics, when your preschooler’s eyes light up as you enter his world of pretend, or when you help your big kid realize he can do something all by himself. You make all the difference for your child – you and only you.
So, while the latest technological gadget may be tempting, I can promise that it will never be better than you. Just taking pleasure in the precious and fleeting moments of childhood, being there when your child needs you, and taking time to just BE with each other… these are the very best gifts you can give your child. Never underestimate the power of you!

Why Kindermusik?

WHY KINDERMUSIK? “Music is an essential part of everything we do. Like puppetry, music has an abstract quality which speaks to a worldwide audience in a wonderful way that nourishes the soul.” -puppeteer Jim Henson
